How do I know if I need a mini tummy tuck, a full tummy tuck, or liposuction?

Tummy Tuck FAQ'sFirst of all, the only way to really know for sure is to get opinions from Board Certified Plastic Surgeons. Explore the consultation process and learn about your options. Before you head in, however, I can tell you this much: Liposuction is the best option for someone with elastic, healthy skin and excess fat in a localized area. If your abdomen has been affected by fluctuations in weight, pregnancies, or has any stretch marks, it is highly likely that liposuction is not the best option.

A mini tummy tuck will repair loose skin below the belly button only. Patients who have a small amount of excess skin and/or loose muscle are candidates for a mini tummy tuck. If you have any loose skin above the belly button, you will probably not be satisfied with the results of a mini tummy tuck.

Here’s a test: bend over forward from the waist and see how much you can pinch on the upper part of your tummy.

A full tummy tuck is the best surgical option for most women who have had children or who have had any sort of major weight loss. The muscle is tightened from sternum to the pubic area and all of the excess skin and fat is removed. The result is a beautiful, flat tummy!

I have two kids at home, how much help do I need?

For the first 2-3 days, you should have full time help. You need to concentrate on caring for yourself and recovering. Depending on the age of your children, you may be able to take care of them on your own after the first week. Lifting and bending are restricted for the first 7-10 days. You can start driving short distances once you are off pain medication, and this time frame varies for each individual.

When can I have sex with my husband/boyfriend again?

Following this procedure, most patients aren’t in the mood for the first few weeks. Resuming sexual activity will be dependent on how you are recovering. Typically, after 3-4 weeks, you can begin things slowly.

How much does a tummy tuck cost?

Every surgeon will have a different fee structure, depending on his experience, facility and type of recovery suggested. Dr. Pollack’s fees are around $7000-$8000 for a full tummy tuck including operating room and anesthesia. We do suggest an overnight stay at the hospital as well for an additional fee. Liposuction of the hips may also be added (at an additional expense) if warranted.

Can I get breast augmentation done at the same time as my tummy tuck?

Absolutely! As long as you are in good health, it is very common for Dr. Pollack to combine a tummy tuck with breast lift and/or augmentation. This combination is often called a “mommy makeover”. Your personal treatment plan will be discussed at your consultation.
