Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction in San Diego has become a popular procedure to treat the problem of large breasts. In many cases, insurance will cover the procedure.

During a visit with Dr. Pollack, patients can discuss their concerns and undergo an evaluation in order to determine the best surgical plan. Breast reduction surgery ("reduction mammaplasty") is designed to remove excess fat, tissue, and skin from the breast in order to achieve a balanced appearance.

The procedure is usually done by removing excess skin as well as fat and breast tissue. This procedure both reduces the size of and lifts the breast, resulting in younger-looking breasts. The most common procedure results in a scar pattern that resembles and anchor—the scar encircles the areola, proceeds vertically downward from the nipple to the bottom of the breast, and then is horizontal in the breast crease. This allows him to reshape the breast as well.

These scars typically heal very well, and usually are thin and flat after 8 to 12 months. Fewer scars can be used for smaller reductions, in particular eliminating the crease scar. In some cases, liposuction alone can remove the excess breast tissue, but will not lift or tighten the breast.

Post Breast Lift Surgery

After the procedure, patients may anticipate reduced strain on the neck, shoulders, and back.

Breast reduction in San Diego can be done as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Most patients can shower after 3 to 4 days, and can resume driving after 7 to 10 days. Regular exercise can resume in 4 to 6 weeks.
