San Diego Facelift Surgery

The word facelift is commonly used to describe many surgical procedures that are performed for facial rejuvenation. The most important thing to remember when evaluating a facelift procedure in San Diego is that the more that is done, the more change you will see.

Facelift Information

During a visit with Dr. Pollack, patients will undergo an evaluation in order to determine the most appropriate facelift procedure ("rhytidectomy") technique. Typically, a standard facelift can improve the area below the eyes, down to the neck. The facial tissues are lifted to a more youthful position and excess skin is removed. This is often combined with an endoscopic mid-facelift, which can provide further support to the cheek area and diminish nasolabial folds. Post-surgery, scarring is inconspicuously hidden in the natural hairline. Most facelift incisions heal very well and are placed for maximum camouflage behind the ear and in the scalp.

Facelift Techniques

When most people think about facelift, they think mostly of changing the neck and jowl area. This can be done with a necklift procedure, which yields nice results as long as the cheek area does not show significant aging. Many of the recently hyped "short-scar" or "S"-lift or "weekend" facelift procedures are modifications of a standard necklift and produce limited results.

The standard facelift usually involves correcting neck, jowl and cheek areas that are showing signs of aging. This will lift and improve the face from the lower eyelids to the neck. It is often combined with an endoscopic mid-facelift, which gives extra lift and support to the cheek, and helps correct the deep lines between the nose and the corner of the mouth (nasolabial folds).

It is important to remember that in most patients, the face ages in all areas simultaneously. Correcting one area alone can create a unbalanced appearance and draw attention to those areas. While not all patients need it, those that do benefit from a combination of the above mentioned procedures, which can safely be performed at the same time.

Most facelift procedures are performed on an outpatient basis from one of our locations located in the San Diego / La Jolla area. Recovery time for driving and return to work is 7 to 14 days. Normal exercise may resume in 4 weeks, although light exercise is allowed within 2 weeks.
