Men Need Breast Reduction Too!
It may be thought of primarily as a women’s cosmetic procedure, but breast reduction is actually very popular among males. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), 17,645 men underwent surgery for gynecomastia in 2011. This ranking makes the procedure fourth in popularity among men.
Gynecomastia is a condition in which males develop breast tissue either in one breast or both. This can be uncomfortable physically, not to mention emotionally. In our practice, most men who seek consultation for gynecomastia are in good physical condition and are suffering embarassment and frustration.
The plastic surgeon treating the conditon will determine what type of treatment is best for the patient, but often times liposuction alone will take care of the problem. Sometimes skin excision is also necessary. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and requires a few days of recovery.
